rsyslog 0.8.1 released
Grossrinderfeld, 2005-03-10.
Adiscon today announced the immediate availability of
rsyslog 0.8.1, an enhanced
syslog daemon for Linux. "I am proud to announce the first Adiscon
open source tool targeted directly to system administrators", said president
Rainer Gerhards, "our previous steps in the open source area were just
related to other developers. With rsyslog, we now bring immediate value to
the end user."
Rsyslog is a major new arrival in Adiscon's product matrix. Today's diverse IT
environment and the growing acceptance for open source software provides new
challenges and chances for system management. Being an long-term player in the
system logging space, Adiscon has brought many ideas of its
MonitorWare line of products to the
Linux environment. Rsyslog, however, is not a totally new project. Adiscon
listened to what system administrators were looking for in a newer and better
syslogd. Then, the standard sysklogd package was analysed and the rsyslog
project forked from sysklogd. Rsyslog's most important enhancements are:
- direct support for MySQL databases
- fully configurable, template-based output formats
- high-precision timestamps
Release 0.8.1 is considered a beta build and distributed in order to gain
user feedback. However, it already has undergone a lot of testing and bug fixing,
but it is not recommended to be placed on important production machines. For
more details about rsyslog, please visit the
rsyslog homepage. There, you
also find the most current download set.
